Moving to Windows 11 might be worth all this fuss, as after the big WindUpdate it now offers helpful features like tabs in File Explorer, folders in the Start Menu and Voice Access, which helps you control your Windows 11 PC with your voice. Microsoft is pitching Windows 11 as a safer, more performant Windows that’s simple to use, with a welcoming design that’s meant to make using your PC for work and play easier than ever. Other changes that do manage to grab your attention - like the newly centered Start button - tend to fade into the background quickly.īut perhaps that’s part of the plan. One such update that will fly under the radar for most users is the removal of Internet Explorer, which was officially retired by Microsoft in June. If we ignore the requirement to have a Microsoft account, Windows 11 is at least maturing at a rapid pace.But while Windows 11 does introduce some welcome improvements, many are so subtle you probably won’t notice them unless you’re specifically looking. There are other cool things in the pipeline too, including support for Android apps (opens in new tab) and drag and drop into the taskbar (opens in new tab). There’s a plan to integrate One Drive cloud storage into File Explorer as well as task bar improvements among others. I would do that for games, office apps and chat/social media for starters. 
The start menu gets an upgrade, with the welcome addition of folders. It will save a lot of people a cluster of headaches if it does.ĭespite the negative headlines this will generate, there are some things to actually look forward to in the new build. We hope that Microsoft will listen to user feedback and provide an option to at least delay the requirement to have internet access until after the installation finishes. A timeframe for a live rollout hasn’t been provided and there’s always the chance that this requirement will never make it to live builds. The requirement is currently being tested in the latest Windows 11 preview builds.
